Stand-in footage: Tears of Steel

Made with Mr. Yellow

We’re making a series with it.

Mr. Yellow Studio started as the tool for our own show. This page fills in with the season’s real numbers, episode by episode.

What the lab measured

16 experiments, about $62 of generations, settled every technology before a line of product code: the queue, the media pipeline, the scene server, search, the checks.

What a shot costs

A five-second 720p shot approved on its third try costs about $0.71 per approved second. Three 480p draft renders and one 1080p finish: about $0.89 per approved second, at 1080p.

Usage: what was spent, approved screen time, and the cost per approved second by scene

What a generation holds

On 95 generations from our own testbed, the ingest found 5.7 cut points per generation on average, so a typical generation gives six or seven takes.

A generation split into its six clips, each a take for any shot

Start with the script.

Bring a Final Draft or Fountain file, or open our sample production, and scene one is waiting. Or talk to us, and we’ll show you the studio on your own script.
